The day trip starts in Zadar or Punta Skala. Driving along the Zadar canal towards the island Sestrunja is one of the islands in the Zadar archipelago. Entrance to the deep passage of Maknara (depth 44 m) and docking in the port of Molat or Brgulje. Swimming in one of the numerous bays in Molat. Departure to the East, on the outer side of Molat, between the islets of Tramerka and Skarda. Entry into pier on the Ist. Possibility of lunch in a restaurant on Ist (not included in the price of the excursion). On Wayback at the port of departure there is the possibility of another stop in one of the many clean and untouched bay on the Zadar islands (recommended next to the lighthouse on Sestrice).
Molat, an island in the Zadar archipelago, southeast of Ist; 22.18 km², 190 sq.. It was built from Lower Cretaceous and Eocene limestones. Northeastern part (bay Vodomarka, Jaza and others); the length of the coast is 51.6 km, the coefficient of separation is 3.1. The highest peak Lokardin (Lokardenik; 148 m). Agriculture, sheep breeding, fishing; mariculture (fish farming and crabs); tourism. The settlements of Molat (85th century), Brgulje (63th century) and Zapuntel (42th century) are located in the interior of the island, and their villages along the coast. – It is mentioned in the springs from the 10th century with the names Meleta, Melata (Mελετ). In the early Middle Ages, it was in the possession of Zadar male Benedictine monastery of St. Krševan, and after 1409 the Venetian administration gave it leased to Zadar patrician families. Already in the Middle Ages, one developed on the island one of the oldest fishing settlements in Dalmatia. Molat suffered a lot in the attacks from Ulcinj pirates in 1571 and 1684. In 1907. first fishing cooperative was founded on it, one of the oldest in Dalmatia.
Ist, an island in the Zadar archipelago; covers 9.73 km² with 146 square meters. It lies between the islands Molata (0.2 km away) in the southeast and the island of Škarda (0.75 km) in the northwest. It’s long 4.2 km, wide up to 4.3 km. The highest elevations are Straž (174 m) and Vrh Gore (163 m). Overgrown with makeup and forest (Straža). The unindented coast is 23.0 km long (coefficient of indentation 2.1). Greater coves: Široka, Kosirača, Turtula, Mavrela, etc. Towards the south and southwest numerous along the coast small islands (Benušić, Kamenjak, Maslinjak, Črnikovac, Vodenjak, Sestrice, Galiola). Cultivation vines, olives, etc.; fishing. Tourism; marina. Ferry connections with Zadar and the surrounding area islands. The only settlement is the village of Ist. There, on the site of the church of St. Nicholas from the XVII. st., raised In 1856, a new church was dedicated to the same patron saint. The church of Our Lady is located on Straži hill built in 1865. In the springs, the island is mentioned from the 14th century. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the Zadar archipelago district. The original settlement was located on a hill to protect it from attacks from the sea. Later on the population moved to a more fertile and sea-open area near Široka bay, where raised dock for smaller vessels. During the Venetian -Turkish wars in the XV. and the XVI. century an island settled refugees from the mainland. From the beginning of the XVIII. century Ist is an independent parish. In the XVIII. and XIX. century shipping and trade were developed.
